Golden Horn Swing Bridge
Project details
In the heart of Istanbul a new bridge will span the inlet of the Bosporus, known as the Golden Horn, allowing a double-track subway line to pass across the Halic River on a combination of two cable stayed bridges and a 120-metre swing bridge. Waagner Biro was contracted for the design, supply and supervision of installation of all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment for the swing bridge. It has a total length of 120m - two spans of 50m and 70m - and is supported on a central steel pier that contains the main pivot shaft. It is powered with an electro-hydraulic drive and slews over the centre bearing up to 90° in plan to allow ships and ferries to pass through.
