Helsinki City Theatre
The Helsingin Kaupungin Teatteri was built near Eläintarhanlahti Bay according to a design by Finnish architect Timo Penttilä and was completed in 1967. Apart from the large stage (947 seats), the theatre also features a small stage (347 seats), as well as a studio stage. As part of a general refurbishment of the theatre, Waagner-Biro installed completely new stage machinery during the 1990s. In 2013, we converted the CAT controls from version 3 to version 4.
Waagner-Biro has been commissioned in 2015 to extend the upper machinery of the large stage. The upper machinery will subsequently comprise 64 fly bar hoists, 22 point hoists, seven lighting hoists as well as two curtain hoists. All 95 hoists will be integrated into the CAT V4 control system.
This extension will be implemented as part of a further general refurbishment of the entire theatre, which also includes refurbishment of the lower stage machinery for the large stage as well as replacement of the complete stage machinery for the small stage. The completion is scheduled for mid of 2017.
