Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie
The centrepiece of the new stage machinery to be supplied consists of four stage platforms. These platforms are fitted with technology that Waagner-Biro has never built before. But, with our technical expertise, we still managed to prove to the client that we are the right partner for this project. In addition to the platforms, Waagner-Biro was also selected to supply the control systems for the entirety of the stage machinery, i.e. the platforms and the upperstage machinery.
The platforms were assembled in our factory in advance for the FAT (Factory Acceptance Test). It was already established at the tendering stage that the platforms were to be delivered fully assembled following the acceptance test. Each platform is 14.4 x 2.6 M, with a 3 M hub, and with a pure steel construction weighing 30 tonnes. Their transportation was contracted separately by the client, but Waagner-Biro produced detailed calculations, specifications and sketches for it, because the platforms also needed to be rotated. For the purposes of insertion and rotation we also constructed lifting beams and established lifting points to prevent any distortion.
The platforms were taken into Brussels city centre on a special transporter late at night, with two streets closed off and two special cranes in situ to insert them.
