The free-form surface of the Cour Visconti in the Louvre in Paris seems nothing short of fantastic. This is appropriate because the Waagner-Biro created design is based on a flying carpet and will be home to the newly created Department of Islamic Art. About 18,000 works of art will have a worthy shelter in the steel and glass structure made from about 8,000 steel pipes covering some 1,700m2.
This architectural masterpiece strictly follows the brief that the Cour Visconti should not be over-shadowed, but remain visible. Waagner-Biro realized the impressive vision of the architect, Rudy Ricciotti, and the Italian design icon, Mario Bellini, by creating a gentle, sympathetic integration of contemporary architecture in a historic location.
