Golden Horn Swing Bridge
An 800-metre bridge, located in the heart of Istanbul, was built across the inlet of the Bosporus, known as the Golden Horn. Officially opened in 2014, it allows a double-track subway line to pass across the Halic River on a combination of two cable-stayed bridges and a 120-metre swing bridge. Waagner-Biro was contracted for the design, supply and supervision of installation of all mechanical, electrical and hydraulic equipment for the swing bridge.
The 2500-ton bridge consists of two spans of 50m and 70m and is supported on a central steel pier that contains the main pivot shaft. It is powered with an electro-hydraulic drive and slews over the centre bearing up to 90° in plan to allow ships and ferries to pass through.
