Sean O'Casey Pedestrian Bridge
This pedestrian bridge over the River Liffey is named after Sean O’Casey, an Irish political activist and playwright. The swing bridge measures about 100m. Both its sections weigh approximately 180 tonnes and rotate through 90° to allow river traffic to pass unhindered.
The bridge was constructed by Qualter, Hall & Co Ltd., a 100% subsidiary of Waagner-Biro, whose project scope included the design, delivery, installation and operation of this, not only technically impressive, but also architecturally impressive, bridge.
In 2006, the design won the prize “Best Pedestrian Bridge” at the International IStructE Awards.
