Modular bridges for Ghana
Waagner Biro is currently carrying out three projects in Ghana. They relate to the supply of modular steel bridges and pedestrian bridges to the Ministry of Roads and Highways.
The first contract was signed in 2008 in Accra, the capital of Ghana. It includes the planning, production, supply and installation supervision of 9 spans to enable the customer to build five bridges over the rivers Gongonwu, Kudage, Gyanwali and Kulpawn. Each of the spans has a length of 35 metres. Also part of the scope of supply is the delivery of launching equipment, walkways, construction vehicles, and a practical training of local engineers and workers as well as a series of inspections of old bridges.
The second contract was signed on 1 June 2010. It concerns the planning, production, supply and installation supervision of modular steel structures for the construction of the Mishuo Bridge with a length of 205 metres over the Volta Rver in the north of Ghana and the Twifo Pass Bridge with a length of 105 metres over the Pra River in the southern part of the country. The bridges will have 2 traffic lanes and 2 footwalks. Also part of the scope of supplies and services are site vehicles, heavy trucks to transport structural parts from the warehouse of the customer to the relevant building sites, as well as hoisting equipment for the warehouse itself.
