After several decades of operation the suspension bridge across the Moselle needed general refurbishment. Since only the stream columns and the steel tower frames could be maintained, this was an opportunity to design not only hangers but also carrier cables as exchangeable components.
The design had to leave the appearance of the old bridge as unchanged as possible. The structure has an overall length of 207m and a centre span of 132m. The 540 tons heavy steel structure of the superstructure was floated into place by transport vessels and installed starting from the towers towards the bridge centre.
