Harpa National Concert and Conference Centre
The opening of the Harpa National Concert and Conference Centre in May 2011 was an important moment for all of Iceland because it happened during a time of financial insecurity in the country.
The Harpa-project was also special for Waagner-Biro: not only was the company providing the complete stage equipment for three halls (Concert Hall, Rehearsal Hall und Fourth Hall) in the building, which was conceived by the architect Henning Larsen, it was also providing the impressive acoustic equipment. In cooperation with the New York based acoustic specialists, Artec Consultants, and with the help of innovative technology, they installed 267 eighteen-metre-long acoustic curtains, 78 acoustic gates, 35 tons mobile acoustic ceiling and a chorus wagon. These provide a perfect and flexible, controllable sound experience, whether it be for a major opera or for an intimate piece of theatrical drama.
