The striking building has an area of 4,816 square meters and consists of four intersecting 28 meter high cylinders covered with 863,000 bricks.
From the cylinders Studio Olafur Eliasson peeled out from the circle to the ellipse running bodies that lead to parabolic cut-outs and create arched, multi-floor windows. This interplay of open and closed surfaces, torsions and arches, inside and out, makes the brick body an organic, almost filigree structure.
The steel-glass facades and pivot doors supplied by Waagner-Biro exactly follow the complex geometry created by these intersections and had to be manufactured using millimeter-sized templates and welded together on the construction site. Many facades and doors are not vertical, but tilted up to 13°, which made special solutions especially necessary for the doors in terms of functionality.
In the sense of the architectural design concept, special attention was paid to the design of the connection details to the masonry as well as to a discreet appearance of the façade with slender posts and bars.
